Dance Umbrella has a number of standout contemporary dance performances during its run from 11 to 28 October. We’ve plucked a few show highlights, and for the aficionados there’s also talks, training and workshops.
Don’t miss Origami (11-15 October). It’s a dramatic visual spectacle as dancer Satchie Noro dangles, drapes, climbs and shape shifts around a bright orange-red shipping container. Having seen it earlier this year, I can thoroughly recommend the graceful duet between corrugated mountain and lonely heroine. Noro’s immense agility and flawless poise are captivating.
Is This A Wasteland? from Charlotte Spencer Projects will offer headphones and an invitation to be enveloped in play and reimagination on a disused patch of Silvertown Quays.
Out of the System (16-17 October), programmed by Freddie Opoku-Addaie, packs a punch as two house party nights will fuse global flavours of dance companies and live bands.
