The brilliant rising star, Spanish writer Gabriela Ybarra, will be speaking about her debut novel, The Dinner Guest, at cosy Brick Lane bookshop Libreria on Tuesday night. Innovative in its style and structure, Gabriella Ybarra’s ‘free re-construction’ of real-life events plays with notions of fiction and non-fiction, public and private. It connects two life-changing events – the very public death of Ybarra’s grandfather, and the very private and intimate experience of caring for, and subsequently losing her mother to cancer. Devastating yet luminous, The Dinner Guest marks the arrival of a talented new voice and the evening with Gabriela promises readings, discussion, and drinks to celebrate the arrival of this Man Booker long-listed piece of writing.
