Along with Au Bout de Souffle, Jules et Jim is the film that defined the aesthetic of the New Wave of French cinema. All the classic Gallic film tropes are there; a love triangle, bicycles, a world-weary voiceover, fluid camera shots, poetry and at its heart the much-missed Jeanne Moreau. As the apex of the triangle Moreau is infinitely, constantly watchable and the whole film is a time capsule of French cool. C’est magnifique.
