There’s a whole tranche of Londoners for whom the name Wimbledon conjures up greyhounds rather than Andy Murray. That’s because until this week it was the last remaining venue for watching the races in the city. Well, no more. A combination of falling attendances and concerns about the safety of the dogs has led to stadia closing in all four corners and the last hold-out, Wimbledon, is now going to become the new home of AFC Wimbledon. The last day does look like a lot of fun though. Drinks are cheap, as are tickets (from £3), there are souvenirs on hand and you’ll be at the end of a little slice of history.
