We’ve already spoken of our deep love for the Mark Kermode Live in 4D series at the BFI because there are few film critics at once as knowledgeable and engaging as Kermode. Our love is given a little boost this week though because of the film he’s discussing (and who he’s discussing it with. The film is the cult classic The Shout, the best film starring John Hurt and Alan Bates that you’ve never heard of. It’s a story of magic, music and madness with a shifting plot that leaves never quite sure of what is going on with fine performances from Hurt, bates and Susannah York. And discussing it is the wonderful Samantha Morton cpmleting the triangle of good stuff on offer at this funnest of film nights.
