For one hot minute in 2016, after Beyoncé featured British poet Warsan Shire on Lemonade, it looked like poetry might just hit the mainstream again. But, sadly, it is still very much on the fringes of popular culture today; sidelined by more accessible forms of entertainment.
Thankfully, there are some OGs out there who are trying to keep the flame lit. To inspire creativity on World Poetry Day (21 March), Viennese coffee roasters Julius Meinl are offering aspiring poets a chance to turn syllables into drops of sweet, sweet coffee. All you have to do is gift your server – in one of several participating coffee shops across London – a poem, and your morning buzz is on the house. Check your nearest location here and go write that shit!
