Couldn’t make it all the way to Hay Festival? No matter, because London’s very own (much cooler) book fest is back for a ninth year running. Stoke Newington Literary Festival offers everything from straight-talking author interviews – or quite the opposite, depending on who’s in the hotseat – to quizzes, panel discussions, dub poetry slams and foodie and booze events. As ever, the focus is on music and politics and features some hefty household names, including Ali Smith, Meg Wolitzer and Chelsea Clinton. There’s something for everyone at this small but perfectly formed multi-venue North London gem – and no event goes over the £10 mark, which means you’ll free and easy to nab those all-important signed copies. For the more bookish among you, the £70 weekend pass is a bargain. And the best thing about it? There’s not a tent in sight.
