Now in its fifth year, Walthamstow Garden Party is becoming a staple weekend for Londoners. Created by Waltham Forest Council in partnership with Barbican and Create, the two day festival is powered by local people, groups and businesses and combines music, dance, film, spoken word, food and arts & crafts.
Music-wise you can catch the son of Afrobeat legend and activist Fela Kuti; Seun Kuti & Egypt 80, reggae and dub pioneers Adrian Sherwood & Creation Rebel, soulful pop singer Fatoumata Diawara and the London African Gospel Choir. There are dance and poetry performances to watch, local produce to peruse and and plenty of creative workshops to take part in. Plus street food from around the world with the likes of Venezuelan arepas, Jamaican Jerk, Mexican tacos, Taiwanes Bao, Ghanaian goat and Spanish churros.
With all this, a sunny forecast and the beautiful setting of Lloyd Park, this is worth the journey up he Victoria line.
