Kickstart Spring, Try Something New

Resolutions run out of pace. February has a numbing quality and all of that wonderful New Year’s energy expires under a white and seemingly endless bulk of cloud. Luckily, we’re here with @Buxtonwater to break the monotony, erase the malaise and #trysomethingnew.

Battodo Fudokan, 6 Heyworth Road, Clapton, E5 8DR. ‘Batto’ means to draw and strike with the sword.’ Ancient Japanese swordsmanship; that makes legs bums and tums sound a tad tame doesn’t it? Beginners courses are available from March, book ahead to avoid disappointment and disarmament.

Bread Ahead Baking courses, Bread Ahead, 3 Cathedral Street, Borough, SE1 9DE. Bread makers may be a staple of the middle-class kitchen but the mysteries of yeast and dough remain. Skip ahead of the curve with Bread Ahead’s intensive courses.

Host an Eat With night. Various. “There are no strangers here; just friends you haven’t met yet.” Yeats said that. And he may as well have been talking about Eat With.. Host a supper club open to strangers, make friends and show of your culinary skills all at the same time. Everyone from amateurs to artistes are welcome. Think of it as ‘Come Dine With Me’ but with tact.

Hill Running in Nunhead. Nunhead reservoir and cemetery are two of London’s most underrated treasures. If you’ve grown tired of your local park and your resolution is running out of steam, head to the hills. The view from the reservoir is one of London’s best.

Bruce Springsteen sing-along, 7 Leicester Place, Chinatown, WC2H 7BY. “We’re just dancing in the dark/ at the edge of town/ with a hungry heart/ by the river/ racing in the street/ in used cars/ giving us a reason to believe.”

BBT Wednesdays. Wilton’s Music Hall, 1 Graces Alley, Limehouse, E1 8JB. London seems hell-bent on destroying all of its small music venues. Wilton’s will be around long after that sad dust has settles. It’s a grade two listed building. Appropriately, the music at this weekly event spans the ages; with contemporary masters turning their hands to everything from baroque to be-bop.

Morning Gloryville, 9-32 The Oval, Bethnal Green, E2 9DT. A beautiful sun-rise beats a beautiful sun-set. Rise and shine with nothing more than drum and juice. This morning rave session will get you moving and limbered up for the day ahead.

If you could #trysomethingnew today, anything in the world, what would it be? We’ve had everything from shark diving to tiddlywinks. Simply send your reply via our Twitter for a chance to win £250 worth of Red Letter Days.
