Paper Fortunes
In August, the cultural landscape of London always runs the risk of becoming barren. Due to the Edinburgh Fringe, our usually vibrant capital haemorrhages talent northwards, only to flood us again in the autumn. However, this year hasn’t been bad; in fact it’s been bloody brilliant, with Paper Fortunes being a good reason not to hop on the next Highland-bound Pendolino from Euston. The play is based around a communications breakdown on a family holiday, an event I’m sure we’re all familiar with, and what it means
from a sociological perspective. Dark, satirical and teeming with uncomfortable observations about close relationships, it’s a cold look at how fickle human temperaments can be. / Caroline Christie
