So Josh Shinner - tell us about this lonely, underground picture.
As Londoners, we tend to think of the Underground as something which is, more often than not, annoyingly crowded and stressful. However, within its tunnels, the vast majority of people are on their own, and it's one of the few times in the day the phone won't ring or they get distracted, which gives them a chance to catch their breath and think about things. And I just find it really interesting to try and show a little bit of this peaceful solitude, and imagine what is going through their head at that particular moment.
What do you like shooting best?
Things that interest me... And Bonnie Tyler impersonators.
What's your favourite photo ever forever?
A photo of me and my sister. I'm about three and a half and she's about six months old. I'm holding her with such utter contempt (if indeed a toddler is capable of such an emotion). The reason for such a feeling is that I really, really wanted a skateboard, and then along came this little girl and the skateboard went forgotten. For the record I've come to forgive her for this over time.
Have you ever taken a picture and seen a mysterious occurrence happening in the background?
Yes. I took a photo of a guy recently and in the background there was what at first appeared to be a man feeding a horse. However on closer inspection I saw it was Michael Jackson dressed up as Dappy from N-Dubz, and he was in fact feeding candy floss to a unicorn. It was pretty out there....
Would you rather be the guy who takes photos that go in barbers' windows or those back-lit kebab menus? You have to choose one or mankind will perish.
Ah! Barber shop window for sure! Although thinking about it, could I shoot people with crazy haircuts (that in reality no one would ever actually ask for) eating delicious looking kebabs? Two birds, one stone my friend.
Where can we see more of your work?
Well people can meet me by the upturned wheelbarrow on the footpath next to the canal in Camden and I'll happily show them prints. Or, if they're busy I have a little place on the internet they can see some work.
