Buenos Aires Calling

If you lived in Buenos Aires, had some paint and you really wanted to get your point across, especially because nearly 10 years ago the state banned you from withdrawing your money from your bank accounts in a futile attempt to prevent an economic crash in your country, then you and a lot like you would have taken to the walls of the city to vent your frustration. An already burgeoning street art scene exploded, and with the public accepting this art form, it has pushed boundaries and limits with a freedom and eclecticism many other countries do not allow. This is the first collective exhibition of work from Buenos Aires street artists in London in association with excellent promoters graffitimundo and will showcase some of the best work the Argentinian city has to offer. / Josh Jones

Hymn to London Bridge

Something strange and beautiful is blossoming under the north end of London Bridge. For the 24 hours that make up this Thursday Nick Franglen (out of the wonderful Lemon Jelly) will be playing his theremin as a soundtrack to that human river; the ebb and flow of human traffic across the bridge. His soundtrack will be fed through a wash of effects and then transformed by the Soundbeam - a sensor that feeds information from the level of traffic into the piece, causing stutters and eddies into the liquid sounds. It's been a great year for this kind of site-specific sound art; across the river at Somerset House the gurgles and burps of the tide were translated into an eerie soundtrack - the river is alive in 2010. / Rob Valid

Neon Indian Live

Alan Palomo, he’s like the god-daddy of ‘chillwave’; that hybrid genre you’ve been hearing so much about these days. The one that seems to cover the plethora of artists churning out that ethereal, submerged-in-water sound. Also known as VEGA, and most recently Neon Indian, Palomo is riding on this sun-drenched wave and heading back to our British terrain. He writes songs from the heart; ‘Should Have Taken Acid With You’ was inspired by an ex-girlfriend and cites his father, who had a brief stint as a 70s Mexican pop-star, as an influence. If hazy synths and bedroom electro-pop is your preferred dish then check this lil doozy out! Neon Indian will be performing at Cargo on 2 September. Remember it ain’t just Alan P. It’s a collective! / Jasmine Fool

Yuri Suzuki Solo Exhibition

Sometimes when I’m procrastinating I indulge in distractions. Recently my fridge has been making the weirdest noise. It’s like that noise your stomach makes when it’s soo hungry it begins eating your insides. So sometimes when I’m sitting here starring at my laptop I’ll attempt to include accompanying noises which might, if I’m delirious enough, complement the fridge. Et voila I have this ethereal harmony that should be boxed and labelled Chillwave. Japanese product designer Yuri Suzuki knows exactly what I’m talking about. His trademark is to turn the mundane sounds, that we take for granted, into a sonic experience. The innovative artist’s exhibition at KKOutlet will show works which invite the viewer to participate. Interactive jewellery? Ex-squeeze me? It’s an intimate affair where you won’t be accused of getting too ‘handsy’. The private viewing is this Thurs 7-9pm. / Jasmine Fool

ENO Opera Preview

The ENO, is set on giving its high culture programme to the people – everything from accessible singing workshops to the Sing ENO iPhone app. This Friday those grand operatic themes of love, betrayal, corruption and forgiveness are injected with a new lightness via the ENO’s first informal preview evening. What the ENO director of participation Roland Taylor describes as “a very gentle lifting of the lid” is lubricated by the informal setting of ENO’s bar spaces. Operatic legends sing extracts while characters from the forthcoming season mingle with the crowd. Come with friends and hop between “Café Boheme”, the bars where you'll experience focused performance as well as just soak up the theatrical atmosphere. Faust is to be revealed on the mezzanine level in Satan’s Grotto – apparently, Mestophales is up for a bit of speed dating too! / maeve hosea

Coming Out of the Woodwork

Craft & Design. Do they still teach that at schools? Mr Fozzard (yes, that is his real name) taught me woodwork and welding and I was appalling at both. I tried to make a whale on a plinth, which ended up as a circle of wood, with one small hole as an eye, and a bigger hole to represent a tail flicking back. It was awful. My father was terribly grateful to receive this as a present one Christmas. So imagine my jealousy when I found out about this event - Coming Out of the Woodwork sees three emerging artists, Cramp, Selby and Watling, transform a 19th-century Carmelite nunnery through large-scale carpentry. There are false walls, gantries, enclosed spaces, all sorts of wonderful woody wooms (rooms with a speech impediment). The nunnery is run by Bow Arts Trust, so your attendance will also be contributing to a good cause. Hurrah! / Jake Jones

Art Boutique

The Resistance Gallery must surely be the Phil Taylor of London’s underground arts and events scene, pulling off a faultless level of knockout consistency in all that they do. Think Lucha Britannia, Fangtasia and their Art of Japanese Bondage festivals to name but a few. Tonight is the grand opening of Art Boutique, featuring a talented gang of artists, designers and photographers from their very own Resistance Rising clan of boundary-pushing, creative talents, with guest performers and DJs throughout the evening. Our snazzy le cool snapper Tom “Medwellian” Medwell will also feature, providing he gets off his arse and gets his work in on time. Additionally, the new coffee bar will be open for business from tonight (Tuesdays to Saturdays) and is destined to become THE caffeine hangout for the East End art fraternity. / Eamon Downes
