Right on the corner of Farringdon road, 155 Bar & Kitchen is a new addition to Clerkenwell. It brings both some excellent modern British cooking to the area, and proves that not all seasonal cocktails have to be mulled. We’re instantly drawn in my the atmosphere – it’s a good place to go for a catch-up, with plenty of space in between tables. When it comes to the food, everything is beautifully presented, but just on the right side of pretentious.
We start with salt and pepper squid, because we’re suckers for anything crunchy covered in chilli and batter. This is delicious, but quite a large portion. We of course have another starter as well, a much more modest portion of sea bass ceviche. But we all know you shouldn’t underestimate things just because they’re small. This one is banging. For mains, the scallops impressed particularly – rich, sweet and flaky.
