The posh part of Peckham has yet another tempting restaurant. Anderson & Co isn’t new, it’s been serving up to 120 brunch covers per day for the last five years. But now it’s open for dinner.
What immediately earns it extra points to nearby rivals – we’re talking about you Miss Tapas, Peddler, Refreshment Rooms – is space. A beautiful, big conservatory with exposed brick, creepers and palm plants provides enough room to escape the joyful sound of strangers chewing.
The food is lovely. Depending on what the local butchers and fishmongers have got plenty of – which makes it cheaper and fresher for you – is what influences the weekly changing menu. Expect to find moreish deep fried artichokes, fragrant crab cakes and charcuteries as starters. The main of red wine braised lamb shank is don’t-even-need-a-knife perfect. And the cheese board with pear and honey is good enough to swap pudding for. Prices are reasonable (£5ish for starters, £13ish for mains) and staff can’t do enough to help. Another SE15 success story.
