New restaurants continue to pop up around Victoria station, and Aster is doing its best to breathe some life into the rather bleak – in dining terms – area.
On the ground floor there’s a sweet little bakery and cafe/bar, with brasserie-style food and a take away menu. Up the stairs is an elegant restaurant with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking a busy corner of Victoria Street – the views not exactly scenic, but the light working well with the minimalist interior. It’s a nice, rather fancy spot – smart interior and smart staff uniforms – with a simple menu.  To start, we have a beautifully presented Dorset white crab with pickled radish and fennel melba. Nordic simplicity and ingredients dominate the rest of the menu – the confit Arctic char with pickled cucumber and dill stands out, along with an excellent coconut pannacotta with Scandinavian lingonberries for pud.
