Open to the public for 70 years and closed off for another 60 years. It’s fair to say that the team at The Attendant have excelled at the art of the eatery by transforming this former lavatory. Sure, everything is more than a little cramped down there but as my girlfriend always says, good things come in small packages. If you’re comfortable with the idea of dining at the (endlessly buffed) grand porcelain urinals, kick back as snacks are prepared in the little kitchen housed within the old loo attendant’s office. The menu is as limited as the seating, which is a smart move. Quality Caravan coffee is on offer and milk is sourced from Ivy House Farm in Somerset. If you’re just passing by then pop down, grab some bits and bobs and head for higher ground. A big idea in a little toilet. Try it out. / Paul Mann
