Nestled safely away from the hubbub and uproar of tourists, Bam-Bou is an ornate cove of scrumptious tranquility. The restaurant offers Chinese, Thai and French Vietnamese cuisine; with a menu that boasts a well-selected array of complementing dishes from each country. Nothing could have prepared me for the sugar cane skewered chopped prawn starter, which required a culturally immersive hands-on ritual (explained by our very lovely waitress) involving careful wrapping, batavia leaves, star fruit, peanut hoi sin and lots of delicious, sticky fingers. Of our mains, the braised lamb shank melted into the velvety masaman curry while the beef green curry gave just the right amount of kick, setting off the tender meat, creamy roti and perfectly al dente string beans. Along with the food, the intimate setting and impeccable service makes Bam-Bou well worth a grapple with the bustling central London crowds. / Rosa Kaftan
