We think we’ve found our new favourite cheese – Fourme d’Ambert – and we found it on Percy Street in Fitzrovia in a burger join called Big Fernand, on a burger that goes by the name Le Victor (the staff favourite we’re told). This French ‘hamburgés’ place is small and simple, but truly effective, and very quick! They’re not afraid to serve up blue & rare meat, finally a spot that doesn’t faff around. There’s a selection of beef, chicken, veal & veggie burgers. as well as the option to create your own. As already noted, the creamy blue cheese is outstanding, as are the range of sauces, and the meat is cooked to perfection. Their current ‘special burger’, on until 22nd May, is called Le Baptiste with Charolais beef, French smoked sausage, various sauces and a punch of tabasco, all for a reasonable £10. Wash your food down with a selection of French beer or a dry Sassy cider, the Gallia IPA goes down a treat, and finish with one of three ‘crèmes’ – oreo, popcorn & salted caramel or raspberry & speculos. /Nicky
