Master bakers of Borough Market fame, Bread Ahead, have a new spot on Beak Street. What was once an old stable is now a delightful bakery and cafe serving both eat-in and take-away options. Founder Matthew Jones’s passion for quality baked goods at its heart, featuring a grab-and-go selection of pastries, cakes, and sandwiches served in Bread Ahead’s classic breads: sourdough, ciabatta and brioche. The cheesy garlic buttery hot slider (served from midday) is definitely something to keep an eye out for. Behind this distracting array of delights is a small but perfectly turquoise seating area, a great setting for an indulgent weekend breakfast. The sit-in menu offers a variety of savoury and sweet dishes, including the croque monsieur, waffles with coconut yoghurt, berries and compote and scrambled eggs on a demi-brioche bun with smoked salmon. Bread Ahead continue to rise to the occasion. No bun intended.
