Caribbean cuisine is for life, not just for carnivale. No one knows this better than the alumni of Cottons Camden. Though newly relaunched, the restaurant continues to set taste buds ablaze with the rich flavours of aromatic jerk chicken and the intense African spice rubs of their grilled fish. Creating a dizzying mix, it’s little wonder the institution spans decades of evening meals and get-togethers. And not much has changed. Upstairs, the pokey bar offers over 100 types of rums; with a single sip you’re whisked away to a sunnier climate. Downstairs, the dining area splits into three Caribbean islands: St Lucia, Margarita or Barbados. Take your pick. It’s palm trees, white sand beaches, turquoise waters and sunshine at every bite – all to that familiar calypso tune.
