Damson & Co, a delicious addition to Soho’s varied offering, is more than just a charming locale full of Falcon bakeware in which to watch the world of Brewer Street go by. Unobtrusively elegant with some pleasingly quirky touches, this is a space that seems to say “there’s a reason that I’ve brought you here”. You find yourself on a journey into the delicious and surprisingly creative world of British provenance. The deli cum café offers up our heritage with a contemporary foodie twist all day – starting with all manner of egg creations atop English muffins in the morning to elaborate cold platters of meat, fish and cheese in the evening. Get your chops around fresh organic salads – al dente asparagus, green beans and chilli toasted peanuts anyone? Soused fish (that’s ceviche to you Latin food lovers), tartare and carpaccio. There’s charcuterie of venison, goose, lamb and pork and cheeses from a variety of animals too. Pair the Yarg of Cornwall with the Kent Cobnut saucisson for some extra taste sensations. Then the lure of sweet things: a damn fine carrot cake or slice of lemon drizzle. Try washing it all down with a quintessentially British ‘Gin and Tonic’ or a tipple off the extensive list of excellent British wines.
