To find a neighbourhood restaurant on this stretch of Fulham Road is something of a challenge. Well, to find a neighbourhood restaurant on any stretch of Fulham Road is something of a challenge. But that is what we have here. The decor is neatly on trend but don’t let that fool you. This isn’t another rustic BBQ joint. The concept is styled on a restaurant that the owner’s family frequented in Portugal while he was growing up. That nostalgia is clear from the moment you walk in, this is a genuinely down to earth, reasonably priced family restaurant and the chicken is to die for. Single-dish menus are very much in fashion and there is a very good reason for that. Fire & Feathers have taken the time to get to know their product and have produced three variations on the theme; Garlic and Lemon, Peri Peri and Dynamite. It will come as no surprise to you that we ignored forewarning and insisted on trying the Dynamite on, what was the warmest day of the year. It will also come as no surprise to you that it proved to be the one part of our visit that we deeply regretted. Luckily the combination of Peri Peri chicken, chorizo and garlic prawn starters quickly wiped away the hell-fire we’d unleashed on our throats. The dynamite dipping sauce lay untouched and sizzling to one side for the rest of the meal. The oil heavy dishes left us feeling lethargic, luckily we felt no imperative to move from our comfortable wooden booth seating. It seems like there’s finally a place on Fulham Road that we can call home.
