The Frog is Adam Handling’s (finalist in MasterChef 2013) new restaurant and some people have struggled to get their head around his vision for the place.
It’s right by Brick Lane, next to some overpriced vintage shops and cheap food trucks. It’s got a heated outdoor terrace with comfortable, if perhaps not too practical, swing benches, frog sculptures greeting us at the door and jungle type plants.
Despite these somewhat odd choice, we have a rather congruent experience. The speakers are blasting out a nostalgic, disco house playlist and the service is suitably relaxed. We have the set three course menu; a silky chowder, a delicious mac and cheese with shavings of truffle and a theatrical nitro chocolate tiramisu that tastes just as good as it looks.
There’s a lot of skill here; beautiful, intricate dishes with a lot of flavour, and that’s enough of a reason to come here – frog fan or not.
