In a world increasingly filled by chains and franchises, the emergence of something fresh, independent and made with love is noteworthy. This simple Middle Eastern cafe/diner on Warren Street, Honey & Co, is certainly something to get sweet on over in Fitzrovia. Itamar and Sarit met in an Italian restaurant in Tel Aviv, and their careers have taken them to a number of well-known London establishments – including the much acclaimed Ottolenghi – before finally setting up a place of their own. Their intent is to recreate the home cooking of the Middle East, a style of food which is vanishing as grandmothers pass away. Everything is cooked with love and care, from the Tunisian chakchouka and merguez for breakfast, to the mezze, falafel, salads and slow braises for lunch, and the pastries and desserts that accompany a cardamom coffee or a pot of tea any time of day. / Justin Toh
