There has been a hell of a lot of hype around the opening of Mayfair’s latest haute cuisine Indian restaurant, Indian Accent. So much so, that it was difficult not to enter with trepidation – could it possibly meet the standards that I now expect? Hyperbole, both by word of mouth and from the first batch of reviews from the broadsheets meant expectations were about as high as they can get.
The answer, thankfully, was an emphatic yes. Indian Accent is as close to perfection in fine dining as you can get. Not only was the setting, the food, the wine, and the service a 10, but the actual meal itself – we plumped for the 9-course tasting menu and we suggest you do too – was creative and exciting without crossing the admittedly thin line into pretentiousness.
To go into too much detail would feel a bit like a spoiler, but watch out for some immaculate baked cod, ribs with sundried onion and onion seeds, and literally the most delicious mushroom I’ve ever eaten, the kashmiri morel.
