Reports about the interiors at James Cochran EC3 are not entirely wrong; it’s rather uninspiring, and somewhat typical of its location – just on the edge of the city on a street dominated by offices. But get yourself one of the private tables along the edges of the restaurant, and focus on whoever’s been lucky enough to end up at James Cochran EC3 with you. James spent five years at The Ledbury before venturing east to open his own restaurant, where he’s cooking incredibly refined dishes in keeping with his heritage – the menu includes a Caribbean jerk chicken that’s had well deserved rave reviews since the opening. And what’s also nice is that it’s relatively cheap, the six course dinner tasting menu is impressive, but not too intimidating (including when it comes to the bill), and the staff are all super nice and relaxed. For some of the most delicious plates we’ve had this year, we can put up with some terrible art on the walls.
