Gourmet fried chicken seems to be all the rage right now, but even with the word gourmet in front of it, fried chicken does make me think of KFC. I can’t help it. BUT Korean friend chicken… now that’s something else. You can find it at Jubo, just opened at the Bedroom Bar on Rivington Street – a Korean style canteen. The idea is to bring ‘anju’, which means drinking-food, to the great people of London. And oh, how we need decent drinking-food. Their wings and strips of super tender chicken in perfectly crunchy crispy batter, kimchi, pickles and steamed buns with either pork belly, braised beef or portobello mushrooms will make you put down that bargain bucket and hang your head in shame. Decently priced and with all the atmosphere of the real Korean deal, order a Hite beer with your food, and vow never to eat orange breadcrumbed food again. / Johanna Derry
