If you’re into charming old school restaurateurs that serve up simple British and Mediterranean dishes in Kentish Town (yes, Kentish Town – home to the Forum and occasionally the 134 bus) then this could well be a bit of you. Aside from the engaging owner Wendy, the memorable moments for me were the sharp freshness of the salads, the subtle touch of lavender in the crème brulee and some rather neat Union coffee….    Whereas, for me the Kentish Canteen was all about the fish – perfect pan-fried bream, sporting a delicious crispy, salty skin on a bed of fennel, wilted toms and orange (backup provided by a buttery gang of parsley tattooed mini spuds). Every bite a winner. Seems like Kentish has finally got the culinary upgrade it’s been due for so long. Gone are the days where it’s most defining feature was the pool-hall above Maccy Dees and about goddamn time too. Kentish is going up in the world and here’s where it shows. / Eamon & Dylan
