Last week Eamon Downes took me to Le Café Du Marché. It’s one of those restaurants, where if you’re taken there, the experience leaves you feeling like you should be grateful in a particular way. From our candle lit corner table, the view is of exposed beams and weathered brickwork that tastefully suggests the meal will be a special occasion and that someone deserves to get lucky for inviting you along. The staff are personable and radiate super-efficient Frenchness that compliments the food that sits nicely between rustic and stuff in chef-rings (which is about my favourite place for French cooking to be). I got congratulated on my choice of the pork & confit duck cassoulet, which was delicious, but the star of the show had to be the chocolate cheesecake, which by itself is enough to consider payment in sexual favours. I’m pretty sure Eamon is trying to seduce me. / Unmarked Door
