Le QuecumBar, in the beautiful backstreets near Battersea Square, is one-of-a-kind. Walking in genuinely feels like stepping back in time, and not in a contrived, retro way like so many other places. It’s quite perfectly described by one punter as ‘Marlene Dietrich meets the Palm Court Hotel’, we couldn’t agree more!

Don’t expect anything too fancy, in their own words the food is “hearty not haughty”, but we can attest to its tastiness. Besides, it’s not just the food you go for, it’s the excellent music and atmosphere – it hosts the best gypsy swing you’re likely to hear anywhere in the UK, and they even have their own well-regarded label. On a big night – Sizzling Jam nights on Tuesday for example – there’s a buzz a kin to Paris in 1930s.

London’s only gypsy-swing bistro is well worth a visit. And whilst you’re there, maybe try the absinthe!
