Not locally sourced? Not interested. That’s just how I roll. Once home to George Orwell, Tooley Street now accommodates Magdalen, a gorgeously intimate restaurant toiling with Parisian elegance. What’s impressive is that Magdalen sources most of its fresh, seasonal ingredients from Maltby Street market, then combines its chef’s Fat Duck experience to create delicious, well put together dishes including a smoked anchovies, green beans and creamy duck egg starter, gamey roast wood pigeon, slow roasted and deliciously moist chicken, white bean with spinach, followed by shamelessly gluttonous puds of chocolate pot and praline tart. They even roast a whole suckling pig, just for kicks. The genteel service compliments the unpretentious surroundings, while the wine and food menus are nothing short of flagrant in their array and appeal. The perfect detour from Borough Market… / Rosa Kaftan
