We recently published our fave Vietnamese spots around town and this little Clapham outpost snuck in at the last minute. Opened late 2017 by Mrs Le (daughter of the OG Mrs Le of the small but mighty Mien Tay empire) who is intent on swerving your bog standard Viet menu. As the name may even suggest, the focus here is on the grill (and banh mi sandwiches) and wants to enlighten Londoners on the cuisine enjoyed at big tables, shared with the group, which aren’t concentrated on a single large bowl. We got off to a good start with the salted egg tofu which was served with an unexpected sweet mango orange sauce. For the main event we shared the pork belly grill, the oh so ample chicken wings and couldn’t help but order a hủ tiếu Mỹ Tho noodle soup to go along with it all. Awesome. Pork belly called upon memories of Korean BBQ wrapping a bunch of goodness in lettuce and popping in your mouth. Chicken wings are nothing like you’d get at wing night – super juicy, not fried and cut with a tangy spice. The hủ tiếu was a delicious surprise – not based on pho broth, this sweet and salty soup is a delicacy of Mỹ Tho in the Mekong Delta from which the Le family hails. Definitely one to try.
