How much?
Cocktails £8.50, small bites £5

Named after a nocturnal bird mistakenly thought to suckle the milk of goats, the Nightjar is another contender on London’s increasingly interesting cocktail scene. Steps away from the Old Street roundabout, in between the kebabs and minicabs, the bar is a bellweather for two converging trends in the London scene. Firstly – Shoreditch is becoming increasingly sophisticated, and secondly London is taking mixology as seriously as our transatlantic cousins. The cocktail menu maps-out the evolution of serious drinking, with dedicated glassware, home-made infusions and painstakingly-researched recipes, down to the smallest detail (hand-chipped ice anyone?) Like any good speakeasy, live music (blues, cabaret, and all that jazz) is supplied three nights a week – Wed, Thu and Sat. The east finally coming of age? I’ll drink to that ./ Justin Toh
