Welcome to Raoul’s, a mini-chain of north-west London-based cafés and delis that have been providing the folk of Notting Hill, Maida Vale and Hammersmith with fine Mediterranean-tinged brunches, delicious smoothies and home produced deli items for twenty-seven years. The funky interiors, designed by Project Orange, are welcoming without being dull, while the menu, curated by Jordanian executive chef Ziad Jaber, is a far cry from the original offerings that were cooked in owner Geraldine Leventis’s house and across the road, although her famous chicken and vegetable soup is still on offer. A favourite of mine, shakshouka, offers egg in a tomato based sauce while the spanakopitta delivers filo pastry, cheese and spinach deliciously!
