Last night, I went on a shopping spree on Oxford Street and finished with a battered credit card, a blinding headache and a grumbling stomach that would not wait to be silenced. Which would usually present a dilemma, because it’s challenging to eat cheaply, quickly and well when you’re alone on Oxford Street. Thankfully, I’d heard good things about nearby Indian street food café Roti Chai. Within minutes I was settled with a cup of sweet, reviving cinnamon chai tea and a glass of navratan, which the waiter told me was “like bombay mix, but better”. He was right. Then I dived into fun and spicy lollipop chicken wings, steamed chickpea cakes and a lamb curry inspired by dishes served at roadside cafes and train stations in North India. I left feeling revived and happy. Next time you shop until you drop, I recommend eating until you pop in here. / Sara Lou
