Disclaimer: I am one of those irritating people that you want to kick in the arse because they define themselves by tenuous associations. OK, my darling Roman wife and I both loudly extol the merits of Sfizio, the most authentic Italian experience (even though they’re half-Venezuelan) that we’ve found in London. This friendly, family-run cafe/restaurant was a cert for an entry in the le cool book, but has slipped through the net of our weekly extravaganza. In a nutshell come along here and you will find delightful coffee, unrivalled Italian breakfast pastries, a team that know their panzarotti and their cannoli and the only place I know that offers the early evening aperitivo, where you buy a drink and get a selection of completely gratis snacks. Over the years they’ve baked me cakes, tolerated my second-rate Italian lingo and everything they serve is carefully sourced and prepared on the premises. Truly fantastico! / Eamon Downes
