Choosing a restaurant in Brick Lane needn’t be a case of pinning a tail on the curried donkey, no sir. Sheba, in my (rarely) humble opinion, towers above its plethora of rivals. From the first tangy taste of lime and mango chutney accompanying popadoms, the chef’s dedication to using only the freshest ingredients is clear. And this permeated pretty much every morsel that passed my palate when visiting. A perfect Sunday night option for footie fans, as upstairs they show La Liga and the service is charming. What really separates the bhaji from the bhunas is a menu that includes the mouthwatering monkfish khaybari or lobster Bengal special. Finish off with a kulfi. Highly recommended. / Eamon Downes
