It’s one of those hot summer days in London and propelled by the festive atmosphere of the light evening I have an unashamed desire for a lavishly decorated alcoholic drink. But I want none of the pretentious fuss. I just want lighthearted, straightforward and simple fun – and that is exactly what I get at Soho Diner. And it is the negroni on tap, macaroni and cheese, burger and banana split kind of fun! Allegedly first to offer cocktails on tap: freshly made every morning, quick, tasty and affordable – I can’t argue with the formula. And while I would hate to be accused of objectifying our brilliant waiter for the night, he looks as if he has just stepped out of That 70s Show and he has me wrapped around his finger. I over order and leave long after the sun has set. This is a ‘what you see is what you get’ kind of place. And I can see myself returning for a post-party 2am milkshake or burger many a time to come.
