How Much?

With risk of fulfilling every middleclass cliché out there, I’m going to complain a little bit about the lack of independent coffee shops, latte art and artisan pastries in West London. I’ve spent the last year rummaging the coffee desert that is Portobello Road, desperately looking for a cup that doesn’t taste like dirty dishwater or diesel. It’s left me deeply disgruntled and unpleasant to be around. I spend my weekends tasting expensive preserves at farmers’ markets and buying far too big loaves of sourdough bread to make up for it. And I seem to think this behaviour is OK. But, this is about to change. A new coffee shop, promising beautiful and handcrafted coffee from specialty coffee roasters in the UK and around the world, opened recently on Portobello Road. I’m putting a lot of hope on this one being able to restore my social capabilities somewhat and limit my unacceptable overindulgence at the weekends. Either way, Talkhouse Coffee is a welcome addition to the area and if not for the delicious coffee, come in for the beautiful interiors and tasty sandwiches. Middleclass rant over. / Farah Dib
