If (like any normal teenager) you grew up slurping down the trans fat-rich stodge that is Pot Noodle, then a proper bowl of ramen will truly blow your mind. We were so happy when our friends Emma Reynolds and Ken Yamada opened the doors to Tonkotsu on Dean Street, and even happier now that they’ve opened up Tonkotsu East. Lodged in a former mechanic’s garage under the arches off Kingsland Road, the new ramen bar is spacious, low-lit and super comfy. The soups themselves boast a rich mood-lifting broth and noodles are churned out right before your eyes. Try the hot/cold Tsukemen experience (you’ll see) and some old faithful chicken karaage on the side; it’s all so good, we can’t wait to go back.
