There are few better things in life than walking into an Italian restaurant and being hit by that unmistakable waft of authenticity. There are so many brilliant chains out there at the moment (shouts to Franco Manca) that it’s easy to forget that Italian cooking is meant to be homey above all else.

And, Zia Lucia, the second London output opened up by restauranteurs Claudio Vescovo and Gianluca D’Angelo, is exactly that – a no-frills neighbourhood pizza joint that, if the wild success of its predecessor is anything to go by, will have pizza-lovers coming from far and wide to sample their delicious, authentic grub.

The 48-hour slow fermented dough pizzas are simple and superb – though you can complicate them to your liking with a wide variety of bases including gluten free and a vegetable charcoal black base, which tastes a lot better than it looks.
