When the news broke in Boston that a bunch of bored frat-brother students had dressed up as old men to steal millions of pounds’ worth of rare books from their university library in order to fence them at auction, film makers’ ears pricked up, knowing cinematic gold when they heard it. It was director Bart Layton who won the rights, and his film American Animals is a blast, veering between comedy and action, drama and farce. Layton will be on hand to talk about the stories behind the film at this London premiere. Great fun.
