Calling all art aficionados, night owls and cultural creatures. This Saturday the East End is getting its very own taste of Nuit Blanche, the annual night-time arts extravaganza, founded in France. So if you were to forgo those sacred seven hours of sleep any night – trust us, this should be it.
Art Night is curated by Fatos Üstek and held in collaboration with Whitechapel Gallery. The contemporary arts festival brings 13 main projects, 13 venues and 11 artists to iconic and unexpected places in East London, transforming historical sites into secret locations and mesmerising public spaces.
Join Melanie Manchot in the Exchange Square for a mass ten-hour dance performance and throw funkier shapes than a Fatboy Slim dance troupe. Watch a vacant warehouse at London Dock spring to life with Jake and Dinos Chapman’s animations or get flexy with Ian Whittlesea’s illuminated meditation session in the Bascule Chamber.
As if these teasers didn’t sound fab enough, this year an additional 60 events will be taking place, in collaboration with The Associate Program. Highlights include: Estela Olivia’s immersive utopian garden installation at Thomas More Square, Ace Hotel’s political poster campaign workshop TIME FOR OUTRAGE! and a night of film screenings with Frieze Magazine at Curzon Aldgate’s Cinema.
Now with a line-up like that, who could face going to bed?
