Just when Cineworld and Vue were rubbing their hands together with glee at the prospect of cold weather and the subsequent death of pop-up cinemas, The Montpellier ruin it all by sticking one indoors. Back Room Cinema, located, as you might expect, in the back room of The Montpellier, is another string in the bow of independent, small-scale cinema in London. With Rooftop Cinema closed for the season and Hot Tub Cinema forced indoors (which seems to me far too much like taking a bath with a group of strangers), The Montpellier have stepped up to fill the void. This month they’ll be screening A Field In England, the latest offering from Ben Wheatley, on a handful of dates. With Kill List and Sightseers, Wheatley cemented himself as one of the shining lights in British Cinema. This offers a perfect opportunity to sample his work in intimate and warm surroundings…without getting wrinkly.
