Controversial Aussie artist Ben Frost has a sensational new solo show entitled The New Pollution, which is culturally right at home on Brick Lane. Frost is known for his post-modern pop art paintings that subvert mainstream iconography in a bold, confronting way. In this exhibition he takes on corporate giants including Burger King (AKA Black Cock) and Disney, juxtaposing logos, icons and packaging to re-contextualise messages. The New Pollution is a statement about modern life; the persuasive nature and sheer volume of advertising that contaminates our environment, and the brands and characters that aggressively sell to us non stop. Expect depressed Mickey Mice on Prozac packets and crying Lichtenstein-eqsue women on McDonald’s wrappers. I’m loving it.
