What better way to prepare for summer than getting a beach ready? Help your local wildlife and environment with a grassroots clean-up event. Following the recent devastation of Storm Imogen, which battered the UK coast with gale force winds and dumped thousands of tonnes of marine litter (now one of the biggest threats to the health and sustainability of our marine ecosystem) along the coastline. A recent report predicts that there will be more plastic than fish in the sea by 2050, the daily 8-million pieces of marine litter finding their way into our oceans causing the death of a million sea birds and 100,000 marine mammals annually. You could organise a crafty session afterwards with recyclable plastic (check out this amazing resource! http://preciousplastic.com) or some beautiful driftwood too.
