Before they enacted their cunning conspiracy to take over the internet, cats had already infiltrated our culture in a long and proud tradition as literary heroes and villains – and this fun exhibition at the British Library celebrates the famous felines that have graced the pages of books from our childhood, throughout history and around the world. Through a variety of manuscripts and sound recordings, hiss-tory’s most memorable moggies will come to life.
Once you’ve had a chance to prowl the exhibition, there’s more in store for committed cat lovers and their kittens, including a free talk about the making of the exhibition on Monday 10th at 7-8pm with curator Alison Bailey, and a ‘Cat Book Club’ event on Wednesday from 7-8.30pm, when four favourite felines from children’s picture books including Judith Kerr’s Meg and Posy Simmonds’ Fred, will be the subject of an informal evening of discussion. There’ll also be a 15% discount on copies of these cat classics on the night.
