Trendy basement bar The Book Club has come up with an excellent way to beat the Sunday night blues: an “immersive” monthly movie night of vintage European classics. Think Secret Cinema, but a lot less intense and without the hefty price tag. The monthly event has been named Cinema Paradiso, and they’re kicking it off with the first movie this Sunday which will be – you guessed it – a screening of Giuseppe Tornatore’s 80s Italian classic Cinema Paradiso, complete with Sicilian-themed cocktails and free pizza slices. Once the movie is over, live music from the house band will keep the mood going with drinking and dancing “late into the night”. Future screenings have yet to be announced, but The Book Club has teased that they’ll take us from swinging sixties London to the bohemian attics of Paris – without leaving Shoreditch.
