‘Success doesn’t change you, fame does.’ These are the poignant words spoken by Whitney Houston in the trailer of Nick Broomfield’s new documentary about the life and death of the six-time Grammy award-winning star. Broomfield, The BAFTA Award-winning director who brought us Kurt & Courtney and Biggie & Tupac, is now shining the spotlight on Whitney Houston in his latest venture.

This Friday, The House of Vans Dogwoof Film Series will return with an exclusive screening of Whitney: Can I Be Me.

Broomfield’s documentary combines rare and unseen footage of Houston behind the scenes, in candid interviews and from riveting performances – while family and friends narrate the singer’s rise and fall in moving terms. Follow her rise as one of the most successful female recording artists of all time and the incredible legacy she left behind. Then witness a troublesome and failed marriage with Bobby Brown, lead to years of struggle and addiction, before her tragic death at 48. Whitney: Can I Be Me offers an intimate insight into a talented and troubled artist, exploring the impact her life and death had on those who loved her most.

A panel discussion from The Girl’s Network’s CEO and co-founders will follow the screening. Booking is required.
