Apart from knowing it’s our favourite pastime, our knowledge of the internal world of sleep is little to none. The Menier Gallery’s art-meets-science exhibition, In Dreams, might be the thing to right that wrong. Interpretations and studies of the unconscious psyche have resulted in a vast collection of prints, drawings, sculpture, video and installation by numerous artists. It spans the pillars of surrealism and psychology and has been created in collaboration with research by King’s College London’s SleepCity lab, British Museum archives and a neurological study from the University of Exeter. This approach has yielded unique nuances to the content and curation of the exhibition which will host a talk on ‘Society in Sleep’ on the 28th September. The contributing scientists and artists will come together to discuss their research and perceptions of the subconscious realm; for us hobby sleepers, this is where to venture for some answers and educated guesses.
